WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service has issued a new Whistleblower Alert warning of growing concerns about the misuse, diversion, or fraudulent use of federal funds by tax‑exempt organizations, individuals, and businesses. The agency is urging the public to come forward with credible information that can help identify noncompliance.

“Whistleblower Alerts are a new way for the IRS to spotlight high‑risk areas and reach people who may have direct knowledge of noncompliance,” said IRS Chief Executive Officer Frank J. Bisignano. “We are expanding how we identify potential fraud, and these alerts will help connect us with individuals who can provide credible, timely information.”

The IRS Whistleblower Program provides monetary awards of up to 30% of the proceeds collected when actionable information leads to enforcement results. The agency encourages whistleblowers to submit detailed, timely, and specific information related to violations of tax laws or other laws the IRS administers. Tips should be submitted using Form 211, Application for Award for Original Information, available at IRS.gov/SubmitATip.

The IRS Whistleblower Office plans to issue additional alerts as new high‑risk areas emerge.

More information about the program is available at IRS.gov/Whistleblower. Identity theft, tax scams, fraud, and related issues can be reported at IRS.gov/SubmitATip.
