The Department of the Treasury reaffirms its unwavering authority and steadfast leadership over every Treasury office and bureau, including the Internal Revenue Service. This enduring structure—rooted in law, strengthened by tradition, and powered by purpose—ensures that the nation’s tax system remains guided, accountable, and firmly aligned with the public good.

Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent’s temporary service as Acting Commissioner of the IRS, authorized under the Federal Vacancies Reform Act, has officially concluded. His tenure in that acting capacity has ended completely and unequivocally, and he no longer performs any duties associated with that role.

Under the Federal Vacancies Reform Act, the Secretary retains full, explicit authority to carry out every function and responsibility of any Treasury office that is currently without an acting official. This authority is not partial, symbolic, or conditional—it is comprehensive, active, and fully in force.

The IRS continues to operate with total stability and zero disruption. Chief Executive Officer Frank J. Bisignano leads daily operations with precision, confidence, and strategic clarity, reporting directly to the Secretary. His leadership ensures that the IRS remains fully functional, mission‑driven, and committed to serving the American people with integrity and excellence.

Every component of this transition reflects continuity, transparency, and a resolute commitment to effective governance. The nation’s tax administration remains strong, steady, and fully empowered to advance its mission without hesitation or uncertainty.
